Depending on the particular model, some standalone DVD players actually can play various computer format audio & video files, such as .mp3, .avi, .flac, and others. One DVD could hold over a day's worth of .mp3 audio, for example.

My car does NOT have a CD player, have never had a car that did. I wish I did! My car has a radio/cassette contraption! I have a gismo that you insert in the cassette slot that supports plugging an external source into it with a mini-plug. I've resorted to using a portable CD player for that on a few occasions! Once when I had a telecommute job that necessitated a very long arduous commute a few times! I just don't drive enough to warrant my buying a replacement stereo in the car these days.
Haha.... that was me 2 cars ago. My last car had a 6 disc CD changer+cassette. The current car has a 1 disc CD player + 2 USB slots + bluetooth.

I'm not a guy who pays attention to what's available in cars these days. I'm happy enough with my 21 year old Mazda 626LX 4 cylinder... it has about 32k on it, no lie. But today I did something I never do, which is read the review on a new car in the paper, the 2019 Mercedes-AMG C63. Sells for around $100,000 and has a mind boggling feature set. Not talking about the 3.7 seconds 0-60 mph. The mileage is about the same as my car. But the feature set is just OMG. My car doesn't even have an anti-lock braking system.
