making an outdoor speaker

My wife would like to listen some music on the back deck. I'm thinking about putting an old floor speaker that I grabbed off of craigslist and putting it out there. It would be under a covered roof. Is there anything that would need to be done to it for outside use?

just make sure it does not get wet. Consider cover while not in use. But not sealed cover since you don't want moisture to collect inside the container and cause mildew.

Cover up the vent(s), if any. Don't want bugs to get inside.

Also, if the drivers have foam surrounds, the UV will eventually deteriorate them to the point of uselessness.

Humidity doesn't have much of an effect on modern speakers but moisture definitely does.

If it's a paper driver, spray it with silicone waterproofing ( like for shoes). Will help keep it fresh.

You might be better off buying a speaker designed for outdoor use. They don't cost all that much.
