I just thought I'd share my latest project with ATOT while I wait for my JB Weld to set... 😀
I'm replacing the radio/cassette player in my boat. It's like a standard car cd player, but the hole in the dashboard is recessed and set at a 20 degree angle. This makes for 2 problems. My new cd player's cover to protect it from water and the sun is larger than the recessed hole vertically, so it won't fit. The other problem is that the cd player itself has an LCD display that is hard to view at a 20 degree angle. You have to stand up on the passenger side of the boat just to view it...then the windshield's sharp angle makes it harder to get the right angle.
I ended up going to Lowe's and getting 3 small 8X10 sheets of plexiglass and I've cut a frame made of 3 pieces of PG that I can mount the radio through. I'm going to use my dremel to rough up the plexyglass and it should hold some hobby or acrylic paint before I finish with it... This will give it a good finished look. I just hope it turns out ok. I've already made 2 joints on the frame supports and I have 1 more to go before I end up making a cover for it out of Plexiglass... Anyone else had to do something like this before? I don't usually fabricate stuff, but this has turned out to be a lot of fun.
