Alright guys, so I'm using my HTPC at the moment with my older 57" sony CRT HDTV, and the problem is its in 1080i and not usable as a computer. It works great for 10 foot apps like beyond tv (which i use quite a bit), but I know it could be better.


Either way, I'm selling the TV (already have a buyer), now I just have to figure out what to get in its place. The two front runners are the Westinghouse 47" 1080p LCD (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp...nghouse&type=product&id=1158317794037) and a Mits 57" DLP (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp...t=57731&type=product&id=1142294494194)...


price isnt an issue, as being an employee I get em for the same price....the real question is what do you guys thing about quality?


I wont be using any of the tuners on the tv's themselves, so the westinghouse not having them wont matter to me....I MIGHT hook up a wii to it, and possibly a ps3 for blu ray support in the future, but not atm. If i got the LCD i'd hang it on the wall, but its not THAT big of a deal to me to have a flat panel. Either one is going to be heckuva lot lighter than my CRT that i have now. 57" seems like a good size, but it seems like the viewing angles on the westinghouse are much better.

Neither link works for me... A lot of folks been recommending the westinghouse but when I read a lot of details reviews (this was for the 42 inch model) it seems that some folks have a lot of problems with them and more then a few had to get them repaired (some for stuff as simple as firmware). As a percentage I'm not sure how bad the situation really is (those with problems are more likley to complain). However, nearly everyone that had an issue noted the following:
a) return was very expensive since they had to ship it to westinghouse (might not be an issue if you buy it @ bestbuy)
b) technical support was non existing (both phone calls and email were ignored)
c) Even simple firmware upgrade required sending the item to westinghouse

Don't know anyting about the mits dlp other than they generally make good products. I've been looking at lcd tvs with a focus on sony, jvc, toshiba, sharp and westinghouse (not particular order).
