I want to make a copy of my copy of AOE2 for uh safe keeping and stuff. I know it has Safedisk protection so before I used BlindRead to make an image of the cd copy and then used BlindWrite to burn it. But that was with the original cd -> a copy. I tried that with this copy to do a copy -> copy but it didn't work. The files burned correctly but when I tried to play the game with that cd it said please insert the cd-rom.

I didn't think the copy protection was carried over from the original to the copy. So what program or how do I make a copy of this copy :))). Please give me a 100% working way because I'm getting low on cd-r's and have no money so I don't want to waste another cd. Thanks.

Use CloneCD w/Sub channel audio & data stuff checked in the properties for perfect copy of original AofE2. Make sure your burner supports Sub-channel reading as well. I have noticed some irregularities with BR/BW as well...good program but still needs some tweakin'...

Alright I clicked audio and data subchannel under the read file (since that's all there was) and then couldnt wait to burn at 2x. ;)

Then it was 'Reading Session 1 of 1' for around 8 minutes and nothing was happening so in the log it said my burner doesn support 96kb something and then it said failed to read sector xxxx about 100 times.

It is saying it doesn't support sub-channel? I swear Plextors could...

To make it easier for yourself without having to aquaint yourself personally with the particular settings for each game vis a vis copy protection you can just download Master of Disaster's CloneCd Database which you can search for AOE2 and it will have the settings already in memory - then since the CCDDB acts as a front end for CCD all you have to do is click burn and you're ready to go.

Alternatively, if the particular game you have isn't in the database you can then use the copy protection detection and find out what it is - then click the standard settings for that protection and burn away. Almost always work unless you have a brand new game or if you have SafeDisc2 of which then you either need a Phillips-hardware-based burner for perfect 1:1 copies or use patches.

Check out the unofficial CloneCd site for more info here.

BTW, almost all Plextors could read subchannel ... however, i've heard that the 121032 ide with certain revision numbers had problems reading subchannel data ... but that may have been fixed with the latest firmware patch .. or not. There was also some speculation that Plextor caved into the demands of software makers to make CloneCd compatibility a thing of the past with burners including Plex which includes the new and infamous SD2 protection. That's why people are having a hard time making perfect 1:1 copies of such games like Hitman, Alice, RedAlert2 etc...

Hope this helps.
