Frictional Games has released a new teaser/test trailer for their upcoming game Amnesia due to be released in March/April next year: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwO533cANKg&feature=player_embedded

Right now they're completely self funded. If anyone who reads this hasn't checked out the Penumbra series, then you're really missing out on some diamonds in the rough. The games are first person horror adventures with very little combat. "Horror without violence." Google the demo for Penumbra: Black Plague (the second in the series) and check it out.

Horror without violence? Sounds terrible.

I personally don't find FEAR and other horror games like it scary when I have 10 medkits and an unlimited supply of ammo. You've obviously never played Penumbra so I, once again, suggest trying the demo. Google the Penumbra: Black Plague demo out and try it for yourself.

Is this a wii game? The graphics look like one of the old thief games, I don't remember penumbra looking this bad. (but maybe it did)

No it's PC only. The graphics are on par with Doom 3 or Half Life 2. Maybe not quite as detailed, but they're essentially an indie developer. 5 employees.

A little close-minded are we? Might not want to knock something until you've tried it. Try any Penumbra game.

Not that violence can't be scary, but along the same lines, movies like The Ring, Paranormal Activity, some parts of Sixth Sense.... are much, much scarier than overly violent movies like the Saw series. Atmosphere and good story telling is more effective than violence alone.

I did the demo, and i thought it was great.

$20 for the whole series on your favorite digital download store or straight from frictional's website. They also have a mac and linux version available.

Series is well worth $20. If you let yourself BE immersed in the game - you will experience fear. 🙂

I bought the package on sale on steam and I couldn't really get into it. I don't like the puzzle games where you're stuck in a room and you have to guess what stupid random action will get you out. past that, creeping around in the dark just wasn't fun, especially when you have no idea where youre going and everything looks the same

Although there are definitely tense moments and situations where you need to run-run-run, Penumbra is definitely not an action game. It's a fair assessment to say that if you don't like interactive and/or environmental puzzles and adventuring then you will likely not get into these game.

I agree, although I don't watch Saw to be scared. I guess I should have been more accurate. A game without violence? Sounds terrible.
