Mothers form "stop violence against balls" campaign to deligitimize most sports
Dateline: Williamsburg, Brooklyn
A group of concerned parents and anti-bullying activists have began a group aimed at stigmatizing and ultimately banning sports involving balls. "We need to stop teaching our kids to aggressively hit, throw, and kick defenseless objects, whether they're balls, pucks, or shuttlecocks" said group spokesperson Amy Smith. "When we legitimize this type of violence, it sends a clear message to our children that it's okay to hit and create pointless conflict in the name of their own jingoistic group, giving implicit sanction to military actions against other nations who are seen as nothing more than the 'guys in the other jerseys' and not worthy of our compassion in the name of capturing and maintaining hostile possession of the ball."
