Niiiice.... I was going to do that mod on an Antec PP352X Power Supply, and now I have a guide :) . The only difference is that the PP352X has 2 fans which will be changed to Panaflo's. Nice work on the guide, it is clear and easy to follow.

I'm not planning on performing that modification, but I decided to take a look at your site just for the heck of it. It looks pretty good, and I think that guide is easy to follow. I like how you included a lot of pictures. That makes things much easier to visualize... beacuse you don't have to visualize. Good job. =)

SnowPunk,
I was wondering why you didn't solder the new fan wires to the wires from the ps?

Nice site. I'll add it to my collection when I get home. Would you like to provide me with a one or two line description? If not, I'll go ahead and just make one up.

Thanks guys

Quixfire: I did not solder it to the power supply for a few reasons. It is risky enough working in there and I didnt wanna be poking around with a metal soldering iron. But the main reason is, if I had hooked the panaflo to the power supply directly I would have been connecting it to the "smart fan" device where I cut the other fan off at. Doing this would have made the panaflo rev up and down just as the stock fan did which I could not stand

Brian48: Thanks, a 2 line description somthing along these lines. www.ocmodshop.com is a website that includes overclocking and case mod guides along with articles, reviews, giveaways, forums and much much more. If you like overclocking and modding check out this site.

On a side note to everyone I will be doing a giveaway with the case badges I reviewed as soon as I get my site up to where I want it

Pretty Cool Sight, I saved it already.
One thing I would definately add though, is a rubber gromet on that Hole where the fan leads come out, as I move my case frequently and it is possible to short the wire with the sharp edges of that hole. It dosen't take much to skin the wire and it is a safety hazzard.
You can get the rubber gromets at any hardware store.
Sorry if I sound negative, but I practice safety in my system, I learned the hard way.

The hole was drilled so its not jagged and the hole isnt small so there is room for movement otherwise I would have made the hole edges smooth with tape or somthing but thanks for adding me to your fav. I am trying to get the forums and mail server up today

Nice work - I was just thinking that the darn PSU fan was the loudest thing in my case, or at least the fan that I could hear the most. How much of an effect, if any, does the new fan have on operating temperatures? Also, my PP412 also supposedly has the "Smart Fan," but I've never heard it spin up or down. When exactly is that supposed to happen? The Antec "manual" is minimal, to say the least.

The overall temp is about the same. but isnt a big concern because quiet frankly Idont belive it produces enough heat to make any differance. The smart fan on my 300w didnt really do much nothing noticable at least. however on my 400w whenever I would hold my scroll button down on my mouse and drag the page it would spin up. It would also do it during gaming and other things which stressed the system

thanks for that walkthrough! I was looking for something just like this! one question is why you had to drill a hole instead of running those wires through one of the ventilation slits.

I drilled a hole because to me it was the easiest and quickest means of doing so. also the ventaltion slits are on the bottom of the power supply and would be riskier to cut. using a dremel I might possible damage the power supply or yourself. On my 400w the one not in this guide I cut a smaller peice out of the tab on the cover and ran the wires out through that. Also I put the hole there because it was closest to the fan and motherboard header so I would not have to extend the wire itself. Like I said in the guide put it wherever it fits best in your setup :)

In addition to the above grommet recommendation, you should secure the loose fan wires that were snipped, and cover the bare wire ends with electrical tape or equivalent to prevent possible contact with metal ground path.

Very interesting article.
You think a Panaflo 24CFM, 21dB is efficent enough for 400w. (I have upped my 400w voltages only slightly to help the Epox 8K7A)
How does the fan on the PP-403X considering it was a "smart fan" now work by being connected to the motherboard??
Does it not power up nor down anymore??

As I stated in the guide I also did this to my 400w and it works perfectly fine. The 300w has a similar smart fan thing in it like the 400w. But in my oppinion the 400w is much worse than the 300w its louder when it spins up and down and is very irritating.

I made my Antec power supply silent by hitting it repeatedly with a slegehammer.
Doesn't make a peep now.

I have a couple Panaflos I could try in my Antec-350W PSU. Right now the PSU is the noisiest part of the pc since I have a relatively quiet Fan on my Alpha 8045. This noise reduction may come in handy when I'm fragging your ass on Armageddon ;)

Yeah, I'll let you know how it works if I get daring enough.
Actually, never played armageddon till 2 nights ago after 4+months of not playing. Forgot how much of a blast that game is. :)

nice guide will definetely do this to my antec ps since i have a couple of 80 mm panaflos comming.

Do you know of any kind of guide to mount a panaflo 80 mm to a sk6? I just bought the sk6 1 month ago and dont want to buy a 8045. The ps fan and cpu fan are the likely culprits for my noisy system.
