I am running Windows 2000 Professional and I am thinking about making the move from 256 to 512 of RAM... do you think its worth it? Has anyone had any experience using Photoshop with 512MB of ram? does it help any? THanks!
Definately. I pesonally use 1 gig of ram. I run this program called VMware, it lets me virtually run any os without actually of any partition, just install whatever os you want in vmware and run that os in a virtual window. Very cool. Each VM os requires a min of 128 megs.
I use photoshop, dreamweaver, and 3dstudiomax, and the jump from 256 to 512 on win 2k was greatly felt, i definately recommend it, infact i just ordered another 256 stick from crucial for 108 i think.
after i upgraded to 512 mb, i was scanning something at 1200 dpi and looked at photoshop 6's resources...it was using over 2/3 of my RAM in addition to my entire allotted 2 gig photoshop "swap" hard drive space. that program eats resources for lunch. it's the ONLY real reason i can justify for upgrading my ram! (actually, i only did it cause it's so cheap!)
