I know this should probably go into the highly technical forum but I have never had much luck with people responding from there. I need to make it so that if my background is changed I can restart the computer and have the background change automatically back to a picture that I select. So if my roomates change my background and turn off my computer it was just go back to what I want it to be the next time it starts up. Is there some line I can add to my system.ini or autoexec.bat file. Its on win98se.

I realize that I can put I password in my bios but I'm also curious to know if it can be done.

Why resort to this when you can simply ask your roomate to be considerate and not change your settings?

use Win2k or XP, and they can have their own desktop's.....

okay I've found in my registry where it specifies the background. /currentuser/desktop/control panel/ wallpaper then it has wallpaper set to the location of my pick. How would I put an entry into my autoexec.bat file to set this value to a certain file each time?

there are a lot better ways to accomplish this... for example you could just ask them to stop. or are they assholes?

i think a good beating with a baseball bat would do the trick.. (to the roomate, not the pc)

Here you go. Go into REGEDIT. go to: KEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ and make a directory in Policies named "System". In the System folder right-Click to make a DWORD, and name it something like "NoDisplayBackground". Then change the value to 00000001. What it will do is remove the background tab on your Display settings. Then your roomates can't change it. If they reverse this somehow, then hit them with the "Louisville Slugger".
