Make my system NOT share any memory with dedicated video card

I have a dedicated video card with 256MB. I do nothing graphic intensive on this PC.

When I open the properties for this video card, it says it has a total of 1790 MB available, with 1534 MB being from the system.

Logically, my PC says I have 1GB less of memory available than the amount I have.

I thought this was a BIOS setting but I cannot see anywhere how to lower the limit of RAM it shared with my video card.

How can I do this? ATI Radeon HD 3470 and Windows 7.
 
this shared memory is not from your motherboard but from Windows,
it's not going to use your ram as video memory when it's not needed, it's dynamic, and if you are loosing 1GB is not to this, list your specs (ram, motherboard and OS version)
 
Go to the memory tab in resource monitor and see exactly what your system is doing, you can access it from the performance page in the task manager.
 
Problem is he's looking at memory in the video section, not the SYSTEM section. That simply isn't accurate and Windows is smart enough not to steal system RAM for video when it's not needed.

Right click "Computer" and choose "Properties"... that's how much system RAM you have. Don't worry about the video card - it's NOT stealing 1GB of RAM, I promise you.
 
If you have a motherboard integrated video card, the BIOS will let you designate system memory for use by the integrated video card, thereby stealing it.

Maybe the OP just happened to be unable to find the settings in the BIOS because it was hidden, but he actually has such a motherboard integrated video card?

What is the motherboard and video card specifically that he has?
