Make me feel better about my car

I have a 96 Chev Cav. 11,4000 miles on it. My serpentine belt has been squealing for over a year. Breaks screech. Door doesn't always close properly, sometime I come back to the car from the store and it's hanging open. Little rust not much at all. Like Biff I'm the only one who can start the car because there is a specific place you have to juggle the clutch for it to connect. Low coolant light and check engine light are always on (coolant is fine). Good thing I only drive 7 miles to work.

And the worst part - No CD player just tape.

Sounds like the car just needs a little maintenance. A serpentine belt runs only $20 - $30. Plus, some simple diagnostics would tell you what's causing the check engine light to come on. Finally, the door might just need a little grease and an adjustment - and, it too, should be fine.

There's no way I'd commuted - even 7 miles in a vehicle that seems like it could break down at any time. A little simple maintenance would pretty much assure that doesn't happen.

Yeah, the car's fine...you're just an idiot for not taking better care of it.

Does that make you feel better about your car? ;)

Just spend some $ on it, automobiles do not define you as a person, despite what the ads say...

Best way to save some serious coin is to drive a car till it's dead & buy another cheap one.

I'm sure all of this stuff didnt happen all at once. You have to take care of your car and fix a problem when it happens. I have a Nissan and if I didnt take care of all the stuff that happened to it, I wouldnt be driving it right now.

I hate cars! I do much of my own maintenance but don't have the time (3 children under 3 years old - They are NEVER in this car!). I agree, I have neglected this car and those who busted my tentacles are completely right!

Maybe it's time to take some $ can a full day and correct the issues, maybe I can get another 114,000 off of the thing instead of paying for a new car.

I actually TiVo "Pimp my ride". I wonder how many of those people wreck the cars a week after it's "Pimped". All of those would be smart to sell it and get a cheep dependable car and use the money wisely.

Comprehensive insurance + "someone stole my car and wrecked it" = new, non-crappy car! ;)

I never lock the doors! I wish someone would take it for me.

My beater is an 86' Olds w/168k and change. It has its problems too, but damn, its cranks on the first time every time.

If I were you, I'd think of it this way. "At least I'm not on the bus..."

Bus doesn't go to my work (ouside of the city). I'd have to take my son's fisher price jeep to work. It wouldn't be too bad, top speed is 5mph.
