Mad insect - cicada

Is it just me or are these guys going nuts this season? (I'm in KY) The noise is almost deafing.

Pretty cool insects really. They're huge and if you catch them they tell you they're quite pissed.

I'm not really knocking it because its nice to fall asleep to, but man they are insane this year.

Also known as the "cicada killer" wasp. I once saw one attach a cicada on the 18th green. Cooles thing I ever saw...it swooped down right in front of me and picked up the cicada and flew off - stinging it all the way with the poor green insect screaming bloody murder.

Also known as the "cicada killer" wasp. I once saw one attach a cicada on the 18th green. Cooles thing I ever saw...it swooped down right in front of me and picked up the cicada and flew off - stinging it all the way with the poor green insect screaming bloody murder.

I love those wasps, because they (a) don't sting humans unlike their sadistic SOB kinfolk and (b) kill annoying loud insects in a really really cool fashion 😀

What we haven't explained is that during certain years the trees are LITERALLY covered with them. On some days the ground is as well.
