Not of interest to most people here, but some might want to make a cheap, lowpower linux box, or a delux answer machine, etc.
-->486 desktop systems, preassembled in various configs, usually minus Mouse, KB, Power Cord and Operating System, manuals, drivers, etc.

Only guarenteed spec on these is that they're 486.

These work great as a router to share your internet and use as a print server. I have one routing my cable modem using just a floppy disk program of Freesco. But having to buy one online is sad. There are so many of these things sitting in people's garages and basements. I usually find em in garage sales for anywhere from 20 - 50 bucks with monitors and old printers. I never buy them as I have people that just give them to me to get rid of.

They kinda suck for linux boxes too. Even with Cadera 2.4 I would need 300 MB and the biggest HD they mention is a 500MB.I was told for a decent box you need a pentium class with at least a gig. But of course I am talking about a linux with a GUI, maybe the ones that run load the prompt needs less... Cheap router and firewall!!!

BTW the shipping may cost more than the computer, 29 lbs.

There are quite a few single-floppy Linux-based routers and firewalls available for download, so you certainly don't need a high-end machine or hundreds of megs of disk space to run a firewall.

In the past, I've had X-Windows enabled versions of Linux running on a 386SX-16 w/ 21MB hard disk. I presently have an I-Opener running X-Windows using ~10MB of the 16MB internal flash disk.

Linux was slow, but useable, on the 386SX-16. Linux does, however, run quite well on 486DX-33 class hardware.
