Even if I install BOINC as a service the BOINC Manager runs in the taskbar... make it go away make it go away!

Try this.

Other than doing things with the CLI client as a service, etc, there does not seem to be a cool little proggy that just zaps the icon. Too bad.

If you're running v4.2x, there's no reason to run the BOINC Manager all the time if installed as a service...

Hi Shux, there is an other way (if you "just" want to hide the icon) in WinXP
1. Rightclick on the task bar - anywhere.
2. Select "Properties"
3. In the taskbar choose "Customize"
4. Find the Icon for "BIONC"
5. In the rightmost column click on "Hide" or "Show" or whatever it says.
6. When the choice aoppears choose "Allways hide"
7. Click OK twice
And you are done ...

Please forgive me if my choices are not exactly in your version (which I think is english) I am trying to translate the different choises from - yse - swedish - and I feel somewhat lihe the swedish chef in the "Muppet show".
Anyhow, the icon is not at all visible, but you can get to the program by just doing the whole procedure again and choose "always visible" if you want to...
I hope you find this helpful...
Best regards

This is good although it does not make the icon really go away. A user can still get to it by clicking on the unhide arrow.

As already mentioned, when installed as service the BOINC Manager doesn't need to be running at all. Also, only the installing user/admins can run the Manager at all, and only installing user has BOINC showing up in the start-menu and possibly configured as starting when logging in. So clicking "exit" is an excellent solution that removes the icon, and works for all NT-versions, not just XP.
