Opera is running a Widget competition with nice prices, including a MacBook Pro as the grand price. They are giving away weekly prices from ThinkGeek and a Nokia 770 as the monthly prize.
If you know how to create web pages and a little bit about web technologies, you can create your own Opera Widget, upload it to Opera's Widgets Web Page and you are in the competition. Widgets on Opera's site are available to all Opera 9 users.
People are now creating Opera Widgets ranging from the funny and artistic via news readers to educational applications. Most Widgets are focused on a single task, some use AJAX and many have a cool design. Widgets are running on the users desktop, you don't need your own web server to make or distribute them.
Opera have documentation on how to make Widgets available, and in their Widgets forum you can discuss with other Widget developers.
The original competition announcement is here: http://my.opera.com/widgets/blog/show.dml/249511 and more information can be found in the Opera Widgets Blog.
