Majors that law schools like...

basically im interested in getting into a law school and was wondering exactly what type of degrees are nice, im looking at multiples, but have a few questions that will slowly be entered.

Paralegal sciences, what exactly does this degree do? i see a lot of law classes and a lot of english classes. but what exactly type of jobs (without law school) can i get with just that?

You can be a paralegal assistant. Hell to save money just call up Sally Struthers and get the degree through her.

Generally majoring in something because you think a law school will like it is a bad idea. Doubly so with "pre law" majors.
Just do what you're interested in, do a great job, lots of extra curriculars, etc etc.
I just kinda laugh and cringe inside when someone tells me they're doing something like taking several "business law" classes because they want to go to law school.

oh and go get a job in a law office.

im an applied math major and at law school now.

the only thing that matters is the lsat and your grades (but lsat more). grades, though, are influenced by the major you take (i.e. a 3.6 in english isn't the same as a 3.6 in chemical engineering). so the analytical majors are looked more favorably upon as almost everyone in law school you meet will have majored in english, poly sci, history, or some combination of these degrees.

Your major should reflect your interests - not those of a possible future law school. Hell, I was dead-set on going to law school during my first year of college, but my plans changed completely and law school would be a big change for me now.

That said, common majors for law school entrants are: political science, history, philosophy, English, finance, general studies, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, computer engineering, biology, chemistry, geography, environmental studies.

Basically, you can get into law school with any sort of undergrad degree. As long as you can write well, get good recommendations, and have good grades, you're set.

ok, im just looking around currently at majors that are offered at the school closest to me, and just rtying to figure out everything, i think im about to write a paragraph or two of what i want and dont want to do.

Marksmen
Block
Destruction
Restoration
Conjuration

Just jump around a lot and you should be able go get acrobatics up quite a bit.

Want to do:
Interact with people, some computer work, some math, but not much as I don?t like it all to much, outside every once in a while would be very nice, not rushed, but not relaxed work, something that keeps me busy as I don?t like not being busy, an office setting would be fine,

Don?t want to do.
Tech support. Help people with troubleshooting every day, sit behind a computer every day all day. Be limited in career field, be limited in where I can work (location).

im still working on that though, but its a start.

Sounds like you're heading toward being a police officer or other law enforcement agent.

Law school is almost entirely determined by your LSAT score. It is basically the "if you don't have X score, we won't bother looking at anything else of yours."

As for college, take whatever you enjoy. Law school doesn't care about the degree that much.

Suggest you do all 3 of these to form a composite picture:

(1)
a) Phone admissions office at target law schools,

b) ask for admissions counselor,

c) pitch your question to them.

(2)
a) Contact local bar organization in your area (local city, county or or state),

b) ask for referral to bar member who'll discuss with you free.

(3) Are you enrolled in a school now?
a) Maximize use of their student counseling

Yes! Someone got it! 😛

i got the reference...but not the relevance.

remember, alchemy is the easiest, and makes restoration moot 😉

law school is a waste of $$ + :clock:

Is it? Tell that to the partners who pull in over $1M a year.

Is that normal? Most lawyers I've seen don't have a pot to piss in. Granted I don't live on wallstreet but main street..

OP If just looking for payday be a pharmacist.. Guaranteed 100K now...live anywhere...people are getting older and Pharmacy boards will not open more schools to keep numbers down and thus salaries high! Like a union job but better! I bet in 4 years pharmacists will make 150K out of school. When my borther went it was only a four years BS.. not sure anymore.

Hard degrees like hard sciences.

I tell you though, try working in a law office before you go to law school. Most of the time you sit behind a desk or in the library doing research.

I think engineering would be your best bet. It will train you for a rigorous and logical way of thinking and research that will help you make compelling arguements. But add extracurricular activities and electives to train your debate, personal, and presentation skills. If you have engineering degree, you can also take the patent bar (in addition to regular bar) to become a patent lawyer, and that is major money right there. And if you change your mind about becoming a lawyer, you'll have a nice engineering job to fall back on. I really think engineering gives you the right kinds of thinking skills to make you successful in other fields.

I did political science, but I love political science. That's what a lot of Law Students do...under-grad in poli. sci.

But realistically, anything that you enjoy will be better, don't worry about what major, worry about grades and your study habits...you need the former to get into law school and the latter for when you get in...
