120 House Republicans voted against removing statues and other symbols of the traitorous slavemaster Confederacy from the very halls of our Capitol. They wear their racism and the racism of their base as a badge of honor. There is absolutely zero reason to keep symbols of racist traitors to America up anywhere. THey should be relegated to museums and textbooks. The Germans don't need statues of Nazis to remember their history, and certainly not in the halls of their government.

The House passed a resolution Tuesday to expel Confederate statues from the US Capitol and replace its bust of Roger B. Taney, the chief justice who wrote the Dred Scott decision, with one honoring Thurgood Marshall, the first African American Supreme Court justice.
The vote was 285 to 120. Sixty-seven Republicans voted with 218 Democrats in support of the bill.

You should have heard the speech McCarthy gave. If you want a transcript just read any right wing comments on a news article about a Black person.

I'm spilt on this. Rachel Maddow had an excellent piece on this on her show(6/29). And hearing this story for the first time was a bit shocking yet.... this is and was our history as despicable as it was. I'd rather keep the bust where it is so that people will ask WHO WAS THAT MAN and the ugly truth can then be told. I think people need to remember and be reminded that America was not always a nice place to live for a lot of people. That terrible things did happen and was fully justified by the courts and by the politicians. This way... people can realize and fully comprehend just how dangerous people like the Donald Trump's who come along can be. That allowing the insanity into our system can result in insane courts and insane court justices. If the bust of Taney were removed then people might forget. And when a new Taney comes along people just might say OH HE SEENS LIKE A NICE GUY because obviously people can be easily fooled. So easily that people once thought Donald Trump would be THE FUN PRESIDENT. We need Taney to remain up there as a reminder AND because it was in fact how things were back then, and could easily happen once again.

You can find something deplorable about every single person from 50 years ago, 100 years ago, 150 years ago, and 200 years ago.

Only a complete fucking moron like the OP would side with trying to erase history.

Then, inevitably, there is the 2 year old equivalent argument of "dur Hur let's take it down and put it in a museum".... Except... Once again... Every single thing fits that category since your basis of measurement is todays political correctness - which can only come from the mind of a child to make such an innately stupid argument.

Well seeing as if we don't need statues of Hitler in the Capitol to remind us of The Holocaust he created, I really don't think we need busts, statues and paintings of confederate generals, John Wilkes Booth, Benedict Arnold and Lee Harvey Oswald to remind us of the tragedies and acts of treachery they committed against the nation.

It would be like Iraq replacing those ubiquitous statues and banners of Saddam they tore down when he was deposed and treated to a necktie party.

Just plain doesn't make sense. Folks can read about their cherished history as treasonous rebels in history books provided those books haven't been whitwashed and rewritten as in some odd states here and there.

I learned history from books, not by looking at a statue.

Only a complete fucking Moron like yourself will label statues as history, when they are just symbols. In this particular instance they are symbols that remind people of slavery every fucking day. Removing them changes nothing about History, as our History is in History books, not in statues.

Just think if you where raped, and every day you walked outside and had to look at a statue of the person who raped you, or the rape itself.. your kids had to look at those statues, or your grand kids. A constant reminder of that horrible chapter in that families life. Pretty much what it's like for black people who see these statues, it's a constant reminder of slavery and mistreatment, just slapping them in the face everyday.

History is always written by the winners. The south lost those statues are nothing but participation trophies.

The problem I have with this is.... you choose to do it now.

If it was good and proper to attack the South after the war, to wipe their mark from the nation, then why was that not done immediately following the war?
The Union, victorious, had a reason. And i can imagine it was a damn good reason.

I need to understand that, why it mattered then. Why it no longer matters now.

Were ALL these things added much later, after the fact, in the 20th century?
Is honoring the South as our fellow Americans only a recent advent, and not an older measure meant to keep the peace?

This is a conflict that needs more reasoning and understanding. Before resolution finds me.

Only a complete moron like you would side with "History is only represented and kept intact with statues...not in history books or by the written word" shit.

Figures.

HINT: History isn't kept by erecting statues, idiot. We keep history with documentation...written word, photos, recordings, etc. Creating statues is nothing more than embellishment and reward, nothing more.

But we've covered this bullshit from you before, and here we are again. Glad to see you've not changed one bit...still supporting your fellow Stormfronters out there.

This is the equivalent of the ‘civil war was about states’ rights’ take, but for statues - something that stupid people say and think it makes them sound smart.

The reason these statues in the capitol should be taken down is not because the person commemorated had some sort of flaw in their past, it’s because these individuals committed treason against the very capitol the statues are in, and committed that treason to create a race based slave state.

These are not otherwise admirable people with some unfortunate flaws, they are the first modern attempt at creating Nazi Germany. Only someone as stupid as you can’t see that distinction.

think about: the GOP rednecks that attacked Congress on January 6th, attempted to murder Congress members, and steal the United States in order to install a failed gameshow host as their king, see those statues as a legitimate reward for their service.

Why wouldn't they? "Gee, these slave-owning racist pieces of shit got statues for attempting to destroy this country; I bet we will too!"

Dumb people see otherwise.

Democrats are literally the party of the confederacy. Should we vote to get rid of all of them from the Capitol? Its gonna be Bernie, Angus and Republicans.
Conservatives made up the confederacy and yes we should vote to get rid of all the conservatives in the Capitol. The entire country, really. Actually, the entire world, if possible. You guys can go enslave each other on Mars or something.

So...we gotta keep around these statues of people who pushed to secede in order to keep slavery alive, because history, but...we better not want to teach about the history of slavery and systemic racism in our country, because...that isn't history?

Screaming at your mirrors and wasting more oxygen like the stupid, traitorous c*nt that you are.

And then, this fucktard clown comes in with:

Yes, yes, we know...Lincoln was a member of the GQP.

Go find a graphic of a republican political candidate poster from the 1950s or 60s. I guarantee it'll have topics listed on it that have now become issues and topics that Democrats push for, and things that get full-on denial and obstruction points for our modern GQP.

Like...education. Labor unions and improving worker's rights and wages. You know...the principles that Republicans USE TO believe in before losing their integrity and their fucking minds.

But yeah...lets ignore all of it and act as if the "party flip" never occurred. Just another dishonest and ignorant troll c*nt. Fuck off, clown.

I love hearing this, the classic soundbyte from idiots who think demonstrating their ignorance of history is some kind of witty remark. Whoever paid for your education deserves a refund, because you're one dumb mfer to jump into American politics and know jack shit about the Dixiecrats.

Matt390, you are literally a moron trying to act informed. Bottom of the barrel beta cuck stuff; are you apprenticing with that loser n0b0dy or something?
