Ok, I really hate this. Everytime I try browsing for files, it's either slow, or locks up, and then a "Ctrl + Alt + Delete" doesn't kill anything, and then I gotta reboot.

Is there any program that will optimize network settings? Or a CHECKLIST of things to look for. If I do a google search on "Slow network browsing", I get a bunch of sites with registry fixes, tweaks, etc. If anyone knows a comprehensive site for things to look at, that would be much appreciated.

I can't even BROWSE for files, without the damn thing locking up!!!!!!!

Thanx in Advance :|

What model of network card have you? What firewall are you running? (Windows XP, norton, panda etc etc)
Are you using the drivers for the network card that came with Windows XP? If so then update them using windows update or even better find them on your manufacturers website as the drivers that come with windows are rarely hardware accelerated.

Desktop has integrated Intel Nic (Updated all drivers)
Laptop has WG511 with updated wirless drivers and software from NetGear
Router is WRT54G with Sveasoft newest stable firmware (Forgot the exact version.)

Firewall is Kerio. Both systems have Kerio setup in "Gateway" mode for networking support.

I guess the first thing I'll try tonite is disabling Kerio on both machines, and then trying. That's honestly one thing I should have done a while ago.

Sometimes it'll browse (Although VERY slow), and sometimes it'll just lock up. VERY annoying.

If you shutdown or disable Kerio Personal Firewall, are you able to browse without any problems? One thing you might try if that is the issue is make sure that on the Network Security>Applications tab you have Microsoft File and Printer sharing set to "Permit" for both in and out in the trusted area.
