Major Win2k Problem w/ Old Compaq

Hi,

I have an old Compaq system. It is of course a backup system. I reformatted and installed Win2k. Everything went well. The only problem was that Win2k could not find a driver for the build-in soundcard. I looked everywhere, including ESS Tech website, but could not use any of the drivers from that website. I left it alone with the questionmark. I installed a soundblaster PCI P128. It worked great. However, I could not boot the system. I have tried taking out the soundblaster card, but now Win2k still wont boot. The system would stall during the Win2k boot screen.

I have tried booting in safe mode, but Win2k stalled as well. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this problem? Thanks

What soundcard does the compaq have? try to search the support forums on Compaq's website. Many times the driver information can be found (which is not officially supported by Compaq) there.

I'm not worry about the soundcard driver right now. I first need to know how to boot the system first. Win2k stalls at startup.

Yes. I did that under Win2k. I looked in the BIOS, but I could not find a way to disable it completely.
