Major Video Bug in BF2!

Maybe my 6600GT doesn't like me, but Battlefield 2 (demo) is an absolute mess. The ground is invisible! The buildings, people, plants, and vehicles are all there, and some (or I suppose some) of the effects. But the ground is not, everything is just white!

Ah, but wait! If I get hit by a grenade or tank blast, something that makes your vision fuzzy, the ground is there as long as the fuzzy vision persists! It is so funny that the game looks its finest when I can't see straight. Of course, as soon as the efeect goes away, the ground vanishes faster than a $530 7800GTX.

I've tried three nVidia drivers, including 77.6 and the one included with the demo. I've tried tons of AF and AA settings. Lastly, I dunno if this has anything to do with it, but it won't let me play in any 5:4 aspect ratio! I want to play in my LCD native res, 1280x1024, but it only offers 1280x960... I heard that the widescreeners got left out by DICE, but I didn't expect that they would screw over everyone who doesn't own a CRT!

install the drivers that came with the game, after using a driver cleaner to remove all of your other driver baggage.

if the rez you want isn't in-game-selectable, put it in your shortcut for the game like "+szx 1920 +szy 1200". Just do a search on any of the bf2 sites, you'll find the exact syntax.

I had a similar problem with textures at one point, but with a completely different rig. Tweak your dynamic lighting and dynamic shadows, you might hit a combo that removes the problem---I finally did.

Maybe it's just the demo, but I have no video problems whatsoever using the latest dets on my 6800GT. I have the retail version also though.

Ok, I wiped the drivers and reinstalled the ones that came with the game; now all my forceware features are gone, the game won't boot (screen turns black and goes back to desktop) and my intire system is sluggish! When I used the scroll wheel to scroll down to "Video" on the forum list, I though my computer was going to explode, it did it so slow. ...I just scrolled down to hit the reply button, and it took several seconds. Arg!

EDIT: So I cleaned those drivers, reinstalled the 77.6 stuff. Without altering ANYTHING, I booted the game. It works! Now I'll try changing settings one at a time, to see if any one thing screws it up.

EDIT EDIT: Well, I know what it is now; Battlefield 2 seems to be unable to cope with monitor rotation. I rotated my monitor every time after I changed drivers, so it was a common element. The good news is I know what is wrong and how to avoid it, but the bad news is my monitor has to be right-side up now... It is much easier to place the cords with it upside down, and the vertical viewing angle is better with it upside down from where I sit...
