Major texture thrashing problem

I've been having pretty bad texture thrashing in games like WoW and Counterstrike: Source. It's pretty much like wading through molasses every time I get to a new area/load a level. I think I have it narrowed down to the motherboard (an old ABIT KR7A). I say this because I tried swapping my Leadtek Geforce 4 Ti4400 out for a Radeon 9800 pro card, and still the same problems. Could it be the VIA chipset? So far I've tried 4 in 1 drivers v443 and v449, and nothing. Right now I've got 256 mb ram, but more is on the way. However I don't think this will help either. I've also got the AGP set on 4x (max for the card/mobo) and aperture size set to 128. Any ideas? Running winxp SP2.

256 MB of ram is barely enough to run WinXP, never mind gaming. You need at least 512, and with the games you mention a gig is a good idea.

Well I've got 512 in there now, and it made a HUGE difference 🙂 Thanks for the heads up, charlie.
