Well, I enable Hibernate support on my computer set to activate after 1 hour. I go on errands for four hours and when I get home is off, persumably in hibernation. So I press the power button and it turns on and after about a second turns off with a "bleep" noise, cant tell where it came from. It only starts again after I turn the powersupply on and off with it's switch. After three tries I get it to turn on and let it resume Windows XP Professional, it crashes and starts restarting in the most odd fashion. It restarts and before the BIOS even comes up it restarts again! Well I finally get it to restart in safe mode and do a System Restore to about 3 days earlier! (I love System Restore, saved me many times before.) Then it turns on fine and everything seems to be working, im typing this 10minutes after it started working again. I disabled Hibernate and Standby and am going to run Scandisk on the hard disk.
Is this something I should take seriously?

1GB of Kingston ValueRAM PC2700 at 2-2-2-5-1T at 2.6v (two seperate 512MB modules), I dont know if I need more voltage, once a month it spews out a lot of memory errors but then works smooth and fast for another month...
Maxtor DiamondMax 8 at ATA133
MSI KT3 Ultra (KT333 chipset)

Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1 with all updates, patches, whatever!

I dont know man, perhaps try lowering ur memory clocks, sounds like that might be the problem,
However if u did system restore and ur system works fine now then I guess it was a software problem, although I don't see how software problems could cause your computer to randomly reboot...

I think its your timings also... KVR is garbage when it comes to that...

I would go for cas 2.5 and up that Vdimm to 2.7

Let us know.

Your memory timings use 2.5, 3,3,6,2T. I got samsung original PC2700 and have to use 2,3,3,6 if I use 2,2,2,5 it crashes. My motherboard doesn't have the option to set
the 1T part.

I did that, so far so good. Unfortunately now Windows XP needs a reinstall because of earlier corruption. :(

yea i agree with the others in that ur timings are too tight for your ram. lower ur timings and try upping the voltage to 2.7v

Thanks for the help on memory timings, for both of my threads (listed in my profile) it came down to memory timings or having Large System Cache enabled with ATI drivers.

My memory passed 10:30 hours of MemTest86 with no errors so I think it's hard drive corruption, since nothing else is overclocked.

Thanks for the help! :)

Wait, now my computer wont even boot, even in safe mode. I think it's busted up beyond all recognition.

Any last words for me? :(

Your hard drive is dieing or dead.

Any little abnormal sounds before you restarted?

Not really, my hard drive spins up and down very quickly though, especially when the system gets to the point where it reboots. Can anyone else confirm Regs idea, It would stink if my hard drive died. :(

Thanks guys!

If you got XP try booting to the CD and do a reinstall of the OS. Run a complete chkdsk first.

You're probably stuck until you can get the disk. You probably don't have to completely reinstall, a repair installation will probably do it (if you don't know...Google for it.) Your RAM timings were waayyyy too tight for your cheap-ass RAM. Probably gave you some major hard drive corruption. And for those listening...hibernate/standby are the devil....evil little creatures put in by Microsoft to destroy your precious computer. Save yourself the hassle....don't use them and pay the extra $1.00 a month it costs to keep your hard drives spinning.

But MemTest86 came through 12 hours with no errors (I ran it an extra 2 hours people). How will this corrupt my hard drive?

Darn, I would not want to have to buy 1GB of HyperX, that would be almost $140. :(
