This doesn't belong in the hardware section though it does affect our cable and DSL modems etc...so I don't think I am infected but other comps on the cable network are and are slowing the traffic down immensly...it's like it will never get fast again because the other comps don't even know they have it let alone know how to fix it --- WHY DO PEOPLE MAKE THESE WORMS? ARGH.

You think you have it bad?

Imagine working in a call center when the hardware you shipped is affected by the worm (As it was by Code Red, Code Red II, etc.). Until every one of our customers updates their routers to the latest firmware, every time one of these fvckers comes around we get swamped.

Mandatory 1/2 hour lunches, mandatory OT, etc.

Sucks ass.

Virus writing should be a capital offense.

making crappy products should be the capital offense. Yeesh, if a *router* can get infected with a worm, the idiots should be sued for incompetence.

Just pisses me off from a systems administrator standpoint. If you don't know how the stuff works and how to keep it from messing with others, you shouldn't be able to buy it in the first place. Code red had NO excuse to spread, it was almost entirely datacenter type machines being administrated by complete and utter morons that didn't keep abreast of exploits and such. I hope a few people were fired over that.

Ah well, this will pass just like all the others. Then someone will make a crappy product that is easily exploited again, and away we'll go. :)

That's the worst part about it. If you have certain versions of IE 5 installed on a machine and use Outlook with the preview pane turned on you don't even have to run readme.exe to unleash the worm. Having it pop into your inbox and show up in the preview pane is all it takes. We noticed it at the company I work for after it started attacking our main NT box. Luckily it didn't do any damage (other than mess up Outlook and Office but that's easy to fix), but I still spent over 12 hours at work since Tuesday afternoon cleaning it out and patching the he!! out of several machines. Maybe now the network admin will set up a more agressive patching schedule, instead of doing it when it's needed... Geez...

My office spent all day cleaning our network. Anyone with MMC.exe (MS Management Console) got it. This will be the most expensive virus ever. It is really aggressive. I can't help but think about how it started one week after the hijackings.

I wouldn't be pissed because of a slow down in some stupid game. Just be grateful that you are a live and have a roof over your head in this difficult time.

Yea, the computers in my office were all useless. We weren't allowed to turn the PCs on. So I actually had to do some work! :Q

lowtech this will soudn rude but you're letting the terrorists win, those people in the building wouldn't want us crying the rest of our lives - would you now rather have no life or go back to your regular one?
i'm going back to my regular one and i'm sure most of those who died would have hoped we did, why let the Ts win?
