Ok looks like I'm having serious problems with a rebuild. The parts I purchased:

Shuttle AN35N Ultra
Athlon 2500 xp mobile
512 MB PC2700 ram

I installed the mother board ok....booted up had a problem with the bios not recognizing the floppy. Cleared CMOS and then it recognized it.

Cpu also was recognized as a a mobile@ 600Mhz. So I set the FSB at 166, cpu multiplyer at 11, voltge at 1.45 reset then it started coming up as unknown cpu. I figured no big deal so I gotto reformat and install windows. Partway through, the pc just shuts off, goes completely dead and won't make a peep now.

And one more thing...the hard drive that i was using(120 gb WD) that worked fine before now has this weird motor noise.

Needless to say I'm very very pissed right now. I'd apreciate all the help I can get. Thanks.

Edit:tried reclearing CMOS and it booted up. What could I be doing wrong to make the computer reset on it's own?

Edit again:I should also mention that I have been extremely gentle with the hard drive so why is it all the sudden making these noises?

Edit yet again:the computer will not stay on for more than a few seconds now. GAHHH! What the hell could be wrong? No beeps or anything, it just shuts off. I know tht the hsf is installed correctly, it was running at 38 idle with a spire whisper rock IV.

Sounds like improper heatsink alignment on the cpu (heat problem causing immediate shutdown) or the PSU has decided to begin giving up to the ghost by having surges and temer tantrums. After resetting the cmos and powering up try to go into the bios and leave it there for a while. Place your hand on the heatshink and make sure it is warm (not hot or cold i.e. room temperature). Make sure all the fans are rotating etc.

Saw your edit:

Hmmm.

I would suspect a psu issue. Do you have another psu lying around or in another computer you could attempt to use? How about a spare hard-drive? Trying taking the hard-drive off the psu and try to start the computer again. See if it makes it to the OS/no hard-drive found screen
