I have a gigabyte 8iexp with a dual bios. I have 18 HDs connected to it. 14 external UWSCSI drives and 4 internal IDE drives. I had norton antivirus corporate edition running on it with the latest virus defs. I usually download stuff on my laptop from work and network it at home and copy it to my PC. One day I notice on my laptop that norton keeps unloading itself. I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it to no avail. I installed Macafee and lo and be hold I had a buttload of viruses. I cleaned it all out and now my laptop is working fine. Then one day I notice that my home PC was doing the same thing, so I unloaded norton and loaded macafee and it found a bunch of virues but could not clean the infescted files so I deleted them. Then my system started acting weird. I would BS all the time and sometimes it would not boot up at all. Then I got the dreaded BS on boot up into xp. Said ntfs.sys was corrupt. So I formated the drive XP was on and tried reinstalling xp and got the same error! So I said, Hmmm, let me switch to the secondary bios and see what happens. So I go into the bios settings and notice that the primary bios was not protect enabled so i set it to that and also set halt on all errors. I reboot and sure enough I get some weird error (I forget exactly what it said) something like multiple bios erros. Anyway, I switch the system to the second bios and make sure I lock it down. I installed xp and all my apps and norton and so far everything is stable. What the hell happened? Did I get a bios virus on the first bios? Is there anyway to check and/or clean it out? Thank God my mobo has dual bioses! :|
