Xbox 360 price drop and Halo 3 Console pricing
Starting August 8th, the Xbox 360 will be $50.00 cheaper. In the announcement made earlier tonight, the price was dropped on all Xbox 360 SKU?s available in the US*

Here is how it breaks down.

Xbox 360 Elite $479.99 now $449.99
Xbox 360 System $399 now $349.99
Xbox 360 Core $299.00 now $279.00

Plus, the Halo 3 Special Edition Console price has been announced as $399.99

A couple of things to keep in mind:
These new prices are effective as of Wednesday, May 8th in the U.S. only.
Regarding any global price drops I am told from the marketing folks that ?Today we are announcing a price reduction in the U.S. We will announce other regional price decreases at the appropriate time.?

Kinda a rip off then.... maybe if it was the Halo 3 Wireless Headset, but $50 for some pictures, a play and charge kit, and a paint job it pretty steep IMO.

I read somewhere that this is intended to clear out inventories of 90nm premium consoles (which got the largest cut) so that when the 65nm is on shelves, prices will be 250-300-400 for the core, premium and elite respectively. Also rumored that all 65nm consoles will ship w/ HDMI.

meh, I'm sure people were hoping for a bit more of a drop for the core and elite...and now that there has been a price drop it doesn't seem likely there will be another price drop any time too soon...

ROFL. I'm with you on this. I thought surely something called 'Halo 3 Edition' would include the game. A paint job? Who the hell wants a paint job? Oh, I know. The same people who will go out and buy the super duper deluxe 'you got pwnt' edition of Halo. Win/Win MS!

From the rumors I've read, the system will have the 65nm "reliable edition" chip...so it might be worth it just for that. It would make sense that they would introduce the chip in a limited edition model as they ramp up production of the chips.

I don't know how the hell anybody can whine about a price drop. It means money saved, even if it's 'just' $50. Still, i would prefer they eliminated the core, and just kept the 2 premium and elite models.

Considering that a number of people were able to get them $100 off last year, it could have been better.

That was a MIR through another retailer, though, if I remember correctly. I am with Looney on this one, I don't understand why everyone is whining. A price drop is a price drop. You either have already purchased one at the launch price, or you are waiting for a particular price before you jump on board. If it's not at that price yet, quit whining and prepare to wait a little longer.

Don't forget it's only 20gb instead of 120gb like the elite.
