Major mudslide in cali !!

Don't you get a lot of snow up there? I guess you wouldn't consider it exciting, though - just normal.
 
There was a major mud side in that same neighborhood about 10 yrs ago but no one was killed. Those people are lucky the hill didn't come down at night when everyone was in bed asleep or there would have been a lot more deaths.



 
i lived in santa barbara back in '95 the last time there was a major landslide at la conchita. the people who lived there knew the mountain could come down again but wanted to live across the highway from the beach and down the road from rincon. now they're blaming the county of ventura.

it sucks, but that's the way geology works.

edit: i just watched the video and the landslide in '95 was way bigger. anyone who was at the bottom of that hill after all these rains was an idiot.
 
Slides like that are actually fairly common. You never hear about them unless someone dies or it get spectacular video. Much like you don't hear about earthquakes unless they're more than 6.0.
