This is I64 Sherman Mitten bridge crossing Ohio between KY and IN. It's a pretty big deal. An inspection found some cracks and the IN major ordered it closed. At least 3 weeks just to figure out what's needed, rumors and likelyhood of a 6 month closure. The IN head of DOT was quoted "I would not have let my family cross that bridge"

As a local the only other alternative is I65, and that area was a complete mess even with I64 open. Bad news? The I65 bridge was the one in worse condition. They're both 50 years old, right at their life expectancy. Something about the steel used and the seals only last that long.

Remember, Louisville is the UPS hub for shipping/sorting in addition to Ford manufacturing.

"This is going to be a significant impact not just on Louisville but across the Midwest," said Becky Ruby Swansburg, spokeswoman for Greater Louisville Inc., the area's Chamber of Commerce. "This is a national hub for logistics and advanced manufacturing…and traffic is tied up."

Man if only the country could take advantage of the low cost of borrowing to beef up our infrastructure. Some spending that buys us something for a change.

But really this only affects the hoosiers in my office. I grab surface streets to work downtown.

From just west of Corydon to the junction of I-265 and I-64 on the east side of Louisville is ~40 miles. Heading south at Corydon on hwy 135, then east on 1051, thewn east on 31W, then east on 841 to connect with I-265 is ~73 miles. Yikes.

I also posted the main reason the bridges haven't been built yet. The funds are there.

No they're not. We're in a hole of 1.5 Trillion per year. You want a bridge? Hire a private contractor and build your own.

People want decent roads and bridges among other things? Pay for it or do without.

Maybe we can just import a new bridge from China, similar to what California just did.

Sounds like Matty Moroun in MI. This guy owns the Ambassador Bridge and tried to shutdown the plan for a new bridge which he wouldn't own.
He would be able to bid on the design, build, operate, and finance concession for the new bridge just like everyone else. (Assuming the legislature passed PPP needed for the NITC).

Republicans like the OP support spending trillions on false wars overseas as well as sending all jobs overseas, is he complaining about a bridge that Americans won't need anyway since there are no jobs to drive to work anyway?

Are you high?? People HAVE been paying for it. All the money gets outright stolen to pay back union voters and welfare babies.

Keep subsidizing the bottom feeders and of course the money isnt there.
