Im having major issues with my new graphics card. it plays doom 3 fine, but when i play colin macrae 04, youll be going along and then the screen will freeze, the sounds hangs, and then all of a sudden and then 5 secounds later youll find yourself off the track!!! its seems to do this freezing thing in all games but doom 3, it even did it in 3d mark 03. i get the feeling its a direct x thing cause the only title uneffected is doom 3, which is openGL ( the only ogl game i tried as well ).
what worries me most is that it does this in windows xp and also on my win xp x64 edition install as well. the only common factor is that they both had ati drivers installed before i upgraded to this card. i have removed the ati control center and the drivers using add / remove software in the control panel. what im wondering is that maybe there is ati driver files still on there and its conflicting. there dosent appear to be bnut its a thaught. other than that perhaps its my psu. its a hyper 350W psu, maybe the cards not getting enuff juice. any suggestions?

Could be fast writes, try disabling that option in your BIOS. I've also heard you can disable it using a third party program like RivaTuner or coolbits but I haven't tried this myself.

thanks for the reply guys. the fastwrites have been turned off and its not doing it now. How much impact will not having fastwrites on hav against if i was running the card without problems with fastwrites on?
sounds like a motherboard compatibilitys issues to me :(
ah heck.
thanks very much guys. has anyone else had this problem?

p.s i have also updated my 64bit and 32 bit nforce drivers and soundcard drivers, but good suggestion non the less ;)

Almost anyone with a 6800 series card has to turn off fastwrites or else they run into this problem. Honestly don't know how much of a performance hit there will be but I haven't had any problems.

I didn't realize open GL programs didn't have this problem though. Now that I think about it, before I disabled fast writes on my machine I had only been trying D3D stuff and thought it was a problem with any 3d program. I'll have to try some doom3 benches with it turned back on and see if there really is any performance change.
