I've been watching the shootout that happened in Harlem a couple of days ago when 2 robbers attempted to rob a pharmacy for money and painkillers. In most of the surveillance videos, you see 3 police officers arrive within seconds after the silent alarm is triggered. They have their guns drawn outside the pharmacy. This isn't surprising because 1) the pharmacy is on 1st Avenue and there's a police station 3 blocks away between Lexington and Park Avenue and 2) police are everywhere in that neighbor hood because it isn't so nice. So, in one second you have 3 cops laying siege to the pharmacy with the robbers inside. A second later, the robbers escape the pharmacy. One gets away while another is shot in the neck/cheek and the head as he tried to escape east-bound towards a gas station and was brought down by a retired detective who just happened to be filling his new boss's car with gas. The dead robber's gun jammed. The private photos I have show his brain matter all over the pavement.
So, how did this happen? My guess is the female police officers. 2 of the 3 officers laying siege to the pharmacy were females and they gave way when the robbers stormed the door. The male police officer probably also gave way, perhaps fearing for the female police officers' safety. I've seen this happen in Afghanistan where male soldiers are primarily worried about the safety of the females in their ranks rather than carrying out their objectives.
As for the cops, I hope they get demoted and have to take on desk jobs because the robbers should never have left the pharmacy with guns blazing.
