I rip and copy DVDs all the time. I even author simple menu-less DVDs from time to time. On a basic level, I know my way around VOB files.
But now I have two DVDs giving me major problems.
The first DVD plays just fine in a standalone DVD player, but it won't fast-forward through the 9:52 marker. It will play at normal speed, but not anything faster. Meanwhile, DVD Decrypter freezes at 26% (presumably at the same 9:52 spot), announcing an error. Even if I click "ignore," it just keeps reporting errors.
Here's something else that's weird: Instead of an AUDIO_TS folder, the disc has a VIDEO_RM folder. Within VIDEO_RM are the following files: VIDEO_RM.BUP, VIDEO_RM.DAT and VIDEO_RM.IFO, all of them 1MB or less in size.
This DVD was copied for me by somebody else, so I don't know what hardware/software he used to burn it. However, the original was recorded on a standalone recorder. Maybe that has something to do with the wacky file structure.
My Nero software also refuses to copy it, halting after it reads 26%.
My first guess is that the DVD is somehow defective. But since the DVD player reads it just fine, why can't my DVD-ROM?
I'll get to the second DVD in a minute. For now, do y'all have any suggestions for this first problem?
