Major differences between XP Home & XP Pro......

As Mr Chad says...

For the avg user, the biggest difference is one comes on a blue box and the other in a green one. Got to know what avg user means.

Home doesnt have backup installed by default, home cant be bound to a domain, slightly less flexibility with user accounts and security.

No faster at all

For the average user, the difference pretty much ammounts to price. If they're running a complex network for some reason, or have 2 physical CPUs (not dual core), or have some need for remote desktop, pro would be a better choice, but these aren't exactly 'average' user scenarios.

This thread gets two :thumbsup: for not following the usual route of Home vs Pro threads.
Home is fine for pretty much everything you want to do.
If you're an experienced user, then you'll know why you need Pro.

I think the most important difference for the "average user" is that pro allows you to encrypt NTFS files; with Home you need extra software.

Pro works well with others. So if you add a pc in your house 1year from now, setting up a network and shared folders will be SO much easier. Spend the bones, get PRO.

Home doesn't have remote desktop. This can be accomplished using VNC instead, but remote desktop does some things that VNC doesn't.
