Major Difference in TBIRD 266mhz(C) and TBIRD 200mhz(B)?

Reason I ask this is, I have an abit kt7 motherboard which only supports Tbird-200 mhz (B) (as far as I know). For me to upgrade to 1400 or 1300mhz C I'd have to get a new mobo as well (I don't overclock). I'm at a 900 TBIRD right now and I see value in selling the processor and buying a 1300 or 1400 B chip. The thing is though, is it more worth buying a 266/DDR mobo instead? Am I able to put my tbird 900 Bchip in a new 266/dDR mobo and upgrade the chip later?

At this time, what's the best thing to do?

It is probably pointless for you to upgrade to a T-Bird at the moment. Especially a 100 DDR fsb one...I'd suggest putting your money into a better video card the Voodoo 5 isn't the greatest video card...you have plenty of CPU horses for now.

I suggest u better wait and stick with your old system coz 266/DDR not as good as it said.
ABIT KT7 can't support EV6 Bus (133 Mhz) so u need new mobo or ABIT KT7A or above.

"ABIT KT7 can't support EV6 Bus (133 Mhz) so u need new mobo or ABIT KT7A or above."

all tbirds/durons utilize the ev6 bus..

why do you think all their buses are 100mhz/133mhz double pumped??

mallow:

is not really beneficial for you to upgrade to a 266fsb processor, especialy w/ a kt133 chipset

if it were the kt133a, it would be more advisable

stick w/ what you got now and wait untill the next gen ddr mobos come out (ie the nforce 4200)

the v5500 is a great card and it can hold its own at 4x fsaa, keep that in mind

save up now...splurge later 🙂

Thanks for the advice everyone.
And yes, the Voodoo 5 is a great card for FSAA..I am not going to ditch it yet, it's colours in 2D are also very good and produces sharp text/graphics. I'm not purchasing a GeForce3 (yet). So I should wait for something else (regarding mobo/cpu) instead of going to 1.3 or 1.4 gz (B chip)? It's well within my money wasting range if I sell my Tbird 900 chip on top...The voodoo 5 may not be the quickest, but I still do get 60 FPS in most 1024 res games I play - so it's still doing its job for me.

Thanks,

mallowjr, I hear that there are 1.3's and 1.4's that run on the 100 FSB if all you want is a CPU upgrade, then your current KT7 fine. Anyway though... I was facing the same situation (had a Athy @ 963 w/ KT7-raid) and decided to wait until nForce + Palo hit to make my final decision... well until one day I got home and my system wouldnt boot (turns out its a bad mobo)... so that forced me to upgrade (1.4 w/ iwill kk266). In any case, my opinion is to wait... better cpu/mobos are on the horizon and your system is plenty fast to get you there...

Alright I'll wait then...I'm receiving my dell 21" trinitron in the mail next week, I hope it arrives fine...that will quench my gaming thirst until games start really chugging on my voodoo 5. I'll then think about a GeForce3 or new processor.

good choice and congrats on a new monitor... trust me, its a far better upgrade for you than a CPU was... you'll enjoy a bigger monitor more anyway (unless you were already coming from a 19+ inch monitor)...

enjoy...
