MAJOR desktop issues....

Alright, so here's my situation:

I have a "HP" computer that I bought 4 years ago, moved to a new case, and upgraded the optical drive, vieo card, hard drive, sound card, etc. Here are my specs:

P4 Northwood 2.26
MSI Argon generic mobo (i'll try to find exact model number, I can't remember off the top of my head)
1 GB Kingston PC 2100 RAM
Maxtor 60 GB HDD
Radeon 9600 Pro Vid Card
Hercules Gamesurround Fortissimo Sound Card
Sony 710A DVD Burner
MGE Vigor 500W Power Supply
Generic Case

I've been away from my dorm room for about a month, but shorty before I left, my iTunes stopped working. It would crash every time I opened it up, not even letting me fully open the program. I tried to reinstall the program, still gave me issues.

I figured something was wrong majorly when a system restore wouldn't work. At all.

I came back yesterday ready to do an HP restore with the system disks, and as it initialized it froze. I waited for 30 minutes, and the progress hadn't moved. So I flicked the computer off, and rebooted to the recovery CD, but no bios screen came up. So I tried to go into the recovery mode again, but still nothing. I get an I/O error when I boot and it tells me that no valid operating system is installed.

Can i get to a bios screen by possibly resetting my CMOS? It seems odd to me that no bios screen is coming up, AND that the recovery console won't boot.

Is it perhaps a sign that I need to finally break down and buy new components? The HDD is probably 4-5 years old, and the motherboad / processer combo is at least 4.

Any help would be great, I'll check back as much as I can as I have no computer right now....

Any questions feel free to email me at thepachman@gmail.com.

Thanks in advance!!!

update: I got the BIOS back! But it still won't boot worth a dasm 🙁 The error i'm getting is "Invalid System Disk, I/O Error" and I can't boot to my recovery partition.

And now it's doing a very weird thing also...I have an LED on my power supply, and for about 3 minutes after I turn the computer off the LED flashes and the fan churns a little but the system doesn't boot.

I'll try booting straight to my recovery CD's and see if that works...
