i finally figured out what was causing me to get around 10-14 fps at fairly low settings (most things set to high or medium, 2x anti-aliasing, 1280x1024 res, bilinear filtering.) on my computer, and it seems to be using direct x7 instead of direct x9. now with super high settings (everything cranked up, with 8x antialiasing, 8x anistropic filtering all done through my nvidia profiles) i'm getting 40fps steady... the problem is that i can only play the game for about 30 seconds to a minute before it crashes. simply reverts back to my desktop. i can't figure it out. i am using the latest nvidia drivers the 81.87's. my system specs are in my sig, and i can't figure out what is causing this! any help would be appreciated.

so you simply reduced your computer from 9 to 7... of course you're gonna run everything on high and still get perfect FPS. 9 places a higher stress on the gpu and consequently you run slower. deal with it

Might not be related but, COD2 uses a CD protection that shuts the game down if it fails. Are you removing the CD/DVD while you play?
