If Verizon is so pro Android why did they drop $23B on the iPhone? Seems like a stupid move for them if they weren't planning to put any effort into selling iPhones.

Im guessing they figured they would sell themselves. However, Android wasn't what it was a few years ago. Mainstream people actually go for the Galaxy phones now and I see a relatively even number between those and iPhones. Add in the Note for people who like huge ass phones.

Salemen work on commission, Android phones offer better commissions.

They probably offer SPIFFs period. I don't know if iPhones would at all. The accessories still would, but the device?? I'm not sure. I haven't sold cell phones since 2006 though (thank god!)

At the time it made sense. They were the number one carrier, but were quickly loosing ground to AT&T. At the time they had agreed to start carrying the iPhone, AT&T was in reach of a rounding error of claiming the top spot. Having the most popular single phone on their network made perfect sense.

Verizon didn't want to take the iPhone. Look at their history and how strong they've promoted their branding. Apple wouldn't allow them to put Verizon branding on the phone so Verizon told them to pound sand, but the iPhone turned out to be more important that even Apple thought and Verizon had no choice but to play ball.

Yeah, it's honestly two separate threads. Not sure why OP decided to make one thread about two different things.

Depends on where you are, of course. People with the money often buy iPhones, I think.

Cuz the OP has a history of just trolling about Apple? If you notice his posts he'll laugh at every fall Apple takes. It's one thing to have a negative opinion of Apple but another to try so hard in every thread to slam Apple.

Pretty ironic coming from you. Considering the amount of slamming you do on Android.

Since flagship phones all pretty much cost the same $199 (plus or minus $50) on contract that's patently false. Outside of hot deals and promotions the typical retail paying consumer is looking at the same price tag on an iPhone 5 as a Galaxy S4 as the HTC One. Even the Lumia 920 was priced like a flagship phone when it came out.

Apple is no Vertu. And Vertu's product *is* a phone that only people with tons of money can buy ($10k for a handset before you get into accessories). It's also Android based.

I was on Android. I spent something like $5 on a single app - and that was a backup app. On iOS, everything costs something. The costs of the phones are more than just the handset.

And while we're looking at handsets, an S3 with 32GB of memory on board cost $50 more than the 16GB model, and had an SD card slot to let you add more at proper cost. Apple charges an extra $100 I think for each new tier of storage. On top of that, let's not forget iPhones have proprietary plugs and all that. They just cost more.

Oh come on. I'm not the biggest fan of Android or iOS. I do a lot of complaining but its at least backed with analysis. It's less biased than those who just laugh everytime Apple hits a stumbling block. At least I'm not laughing about Apple's stock price and everytime a judge says something against Apple. Who cares? Only fanboys obviously. I care about product quality, so my comments are regarding OS behavior and product strategy.

That is a good point. That and iPhones don't go on sale till the end of their life. Wal-Mart sells top Android phones $50 off day one a lot.

Because they're worth more, that's like me saying a Corvette cost more than a Civic. Look at the prices on Craigslist, I'm trying to TRADE my Nexus 4 for an iPhone 4S on there. So far 2 people have contacted me, both want my phone + money for the trade. Outside of the resale value over Android, you also have better apps, more exclusive apps, and a good number of the A+ titles launch on iOS up to a year before Android's even mentioned.
