Major Brands Not Validating??

Has anyone noticed any Dells, HP's, Compaq's etc. not passing the validation process? Is Michael Dell on the phone right now screaming at Bill Gates?
So far we have seen 3 Dell's and 2 HP's not passing validation at our shop using the product keys stuck to the machines.
It's bad enough that the major hardware in these have no warranty from the manufacturers, but now even their Windows licences are not legit?
Correct me if I'm wrong, I just find it a bit more than coincidence that 5 'legit' machines this week would not validate.

My Dell at work (purchased back in January) had problems with the validation process at first. I had to download and run the standalone validation program, but after that, it went thru just fine.

na. They are probably legit, but what you should do it write to Microsoft telling them that you found some bad licenses from some major distributors and then see if you can some more free copies by narc'ng on them. 🙂

I had the same problem with a couple of these also??? But I had one that I had changed the motherboard with an ASRock and it passed??? But it did say that some of the hardware did not match that typically used by the major manufacturer (HP/Compaq). Strange. But like the previous poster stated the downloaded version works.

What standalone program are you talking about?

I have several Dell PCs, all with legit copies of Windows XP Pro running on them. Same PC models, all OSs Dell OEM. (And all use the same corporate Dell OEM key, as is the case for Dell installed OS).

All but one pass validation without a problem. The last one will not validate. I can't figure out why...

I assume validate = activate; and you can NOT do internet activation any more. 5 days ago, I had to call to get a number. Annoying thing was, MS customer service asked me to call HP, HP said to send it back and pay them to restore; call MS again, they finally agreed to give me the number. But, the computer is dead today after installed new patches from MS. I guess I have to call MS again, explain and exlplain...

You shouldn't have to activate an OEM copy of Windows that comes from a major OEM such as HP. They would use a SLP'ed install disc.

true but sometimes the product code is not the same as the one on the case

That's true. This certain HP machine crushed a data base program for no reason, other HP models do just fine; we eventually had to install XP only, without all HP's goodies.

I don't understand microsoft doing this hassle with activation, anyone who is going to pirate xp is using the corporate edition anyways
