Maintenance painted my room and now the walls smell...

I just moved into a new apartment, and maintenance came and painted my room on Monday since the last guy scuffed up the walls a bit when he moved out. Now the whole room smells really bad, but it's not the regular smell of paint. The smell is kind of rancid like some food went bad in the apartment. I'm sure that it's coming from the painted walls and parts of the apartment where they didn't paint smell just fine.

Any ideas what might be causing this? Will air freshner or deoderizer help? I don't want to do anything to make it even worse.

They might have used old paint they had around. Latex paint if left sitting around will grow mold and mildew in the bucket, it is disgusting.

I'd definately open all the windows you can, perhaps run some fans to get even more air circulating. That smell doesnt really sound like a normal paint smell, kinda strange 😕

They told me that it took them a week and a half to get around to painting my room because they were out of the exact color though. I'll probably go complain on Saturday morning. All the windows and my door onto the balconey are open. I've been airing it out since Monday afternoon.

I just used the bathroom, and now my bathroom smells.

Cause & Effect

IIRC those ionizer air purifier things can remove harmful crap as well as the smell... My friend has a knock-off Ionic breeze from a hardware store that really works.
