The MAINT REQD light came on yesterday. Completely unexpected as there is nothing between 10,000 miles and 15,000 miles in the service schedule. Even at 15,000, it's just an [tire rotation], IIRC.

What the heck am I supposed to do at 12,500 miles?! What good is the service schedule if it doesn't say? The manual only refers to the supplement booklet, which most people refer to as "dealer schedule" as opposed to the "manufacturer schedule," so I assume that there is a manufacturer schedule service that they forgot to put in the supplement.

I'd guess that the last time it was serviced the tech didn't reset the mileage minder.

That's what I figured. Thanks.

I called some west coast dealer because they'd still be open and I gave them some story about it coming on when I was halfway through a cross-country trip headed there. He kept saying "If you had your 10,000 mile service, I wouldn't worry about it." I tried to get him to suggest that possibility but he wouldn't until I asked if that's what he meant. "So, 'don't worry about it' because it's probably just that someone forgot to reset it at the last service?" At least he agreed/confirmed, saying "Exactly."

I don't know why I said "oil change" above. I knew that it only gets them every 10,000 miles and also knew that I got tire rotations every 5,000 miles.

Look thru your owner's manual and see if there are instructions on how to reset it.
I've had to reset my 2008 Avalon twice.
