So since Haswell turned out pretty disappointing for desktop PCs, I've decided to instead go for a nice cheap IB chip now that vendors are getting rid of their old stock. Not even planning to OC more (so no K CPU) apart from increasing the multiplier; good enough performance and quiet is nicer (god does that mean I'm getting old?)

So what are good mainstream Z75/77 mainboards if you plan to get a i5-3470 with a single GPU? Or do Q77/H77 allow to "overclock" the non-K CPUs too with multi?

I'm not sure about the multi's but I think the AsRock Extreme 4 is probably the most recommended board here for it's price.

Really the none K have locked multiplier and H77 board would be fine. Optional Z77 board to the Asrock above would be for example Asus P8Z77V-LX for single GPU or -LK for dual.

So the H77 boards allows to increase the multiplier by 4 over maximum turbo? In that case yep I don't see what a Z77 board would buy me.
