How dumb do you have to be to post pics of yourself doing something illegal?

Less than 24 hours after she was named 2018 Maine Sea Goddess, Taylor Hamlin was forced to give up her crown and step down when a photo on social media from a year ago was forwarded to Maine Lobster Festival organizers.

The year-old photo reportedly showed Hamlin holding a joint. A more recent photo also surfaced of the 18-year-old Oceanside High School graduate holding a Juul, an electronic cigarette used for vaping.

Hamlin said that when she received the title on Wednesday night, she was honored to represent her community. However, on Thursday morning, when she went on a tour of the USS Hué City, the future University of Maine freshman was approached by Coronation Director Sharon Lombardo.

Lombardo told Hamlin that she needed to meet with officials, who then informed the young woman that they had issues with her social media posts, which had been forwarded to them by people in the community.

I’m sorry to whoever didn’t receive the goddess they wanted and felt the need to sabotage this amazing thing that has happened to me,” Hamlin wrote, suggesting that others in the competition at the Maine Lobster Festival may have been acting, er, shellfishly.

Crown Princess Erin Dugan will assume the duties of 2018 Maine Sea Goddess, and it is our hope that everyone will support her in her new role. We wish all the best to Taylor Hamlin in her future endeavors. This is a terrible situation for everyone involved. We hope that everyone will enjoy the rest of the festival that over 1,300 volunteers have worked so hard to put on to support our local community and the lobster industry.

The guys who judged this pageant probably spent a lot of time at sea. It might have lowered their standards a bit.

Or they were toking with her.

I would have respected her more if she took responsibility for what she did instead of whining and pinning the blame on others.

The other girls in the contest don't look very happy to see her win.

I think it is vital that the winners of beauty contests possess minds free of drugs… for reasons.

Ahh, I'd toke with her. I mean, err, I'd... well... anyways.

Seriously? Being seen with a "vape cigarette" is somehow verboten in that community? How backwards are they, really? Or does Maine law specify that you have to be 21 to vape? It's really stupid, if so.

Beauty contests are an amazing anachronism. Fifty years into the women's movement and we haven't moved the dial a bit on these. :D

I could say the winner spun the dial on the bathrrom scale like a top but that would be wrong. :(
