Main Cruncher down :( **Update: HotFlashing Failed :(

I wanted to update the BIOs to my NF7-S V2.0. I went to abit's site, downloaded the windows flash utlility. Live Update wouldn't work, so I downloaded the file.

On the corner here, I picked the NF7-S BIOs, and used that. Ran the flash utlity, and it said everything was successful, and I needed to reboot. Rebooted, and I get the siren, I knew something was bad with the flash. I tried to reset my CMOS, tried to boot up several times, didn't work. Now everything is powered, but nothing really is happening.

Ugh... not good, espically since this is my main rig. I'm on my mom's rig at the moment...

Help appreciated!

Thanks.

EDIT: Apparently, I was using the 23V BIOS from here, instead of the 21V from here.

It always sucks to have a computer down, especially when it's an expen$iv? problem to fix, and you're on a budget. 🙁

Good luck dude, I hope you can get it fixed without spending too much (maybe borrow a chip and hotflash, or order a replacement chip - instead of replacing your whole freaking board).

This happened to my son once and we found Badflash. (There are probably others)

I gave them the pertinent info. and they sent a new bios chip. We replaced the chip and it worked like a charm. It was around $20 at that time.

Hope you get back up and running soon.

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys!

I'am going to try and hotflash it later tonight, hope everything goes ok.

I don't see another thread by him about this topic on the main page of the DC forum right now...

Ok, so I search by his username, and he posted a question for help in GH. Normally cross-posting isn't appreciated, but maybe you haven't been here long enough to figure out that some of us DC freaks dont' venture out of the DC forum very much, and most other people rarely set foot in here (if ever). Thus, he posted a similar topic in two places to get the maximum amount of help possible. And in a situation like this, if one didn't know that there were any options, one would probably want to make sure they had the best advice possible before ordering another motherboard (which might well have been what he thought he'd have to do).

Oh, and I'm sure some of us would appreciate it if you stopped trying to step in all the time and play Junior Admin... :frown:

Just make sure that the other chip is pushed only far enough to get in the flash program, and easy to pull out and switch fast!!

The last time I did a hotflash, I had to start over 3 times before finally getting it to work!😱

Good luck getting it back up!!🙂

🙁

I tried to hotflash on my brothers Epox 8K5A2, and at first, the flashing program said it was two different hardwares, and wouldn't work. Then we got an older version, then it said there was a Flash Memory error or something. Arg! Any help on that?

Looks like I'll have to order a replacement bios... 🙁, BadFlash is too expensive, and ExcaliburPC has my BIOs for $16.99, so I might just do that. Too bad my next paycheck comes next week.

Smoke, thanks for being supportive. I probally should not have cross posted, but it kinda sucks when my 3200+ (OCed 2500+) is down! I felt fustrated, and like you said, wanted the best advice possible. Plus, I wanted to let my DPAD/SoB buddies to know that my main cruncher is down, as it normally did most of my production. Its much faster than this P3 800 I'm on at the moment.

Wasn't PorBleemo the one complaining about Off Topic threads in DC earlier?

Dont go ordering a replacement yet, I've successfully hot-flashed 2 boards using Uniflash, give that a try first 🙂

If the Uniflash doesn't work then send me the bios chip. I have a NF7-S v1.1. I'm running the 23 bios right now. I can pop it in and flash it back to NF7-S v2.0 bios. The only problem is once it flash back, I have no way of testing if it work. LMK.

Wow! I'll tell my brother about this when I get back from work, maybe we can give it another try.
