I liked I-Will, Epox, Gigabyte, Abit, Acer and DFI before either Asus, AS Rock or Fox Com existed. I believe Zoltrix also made MB's at one time.
Intel has stopped making MB's.
Who remembers the SIS Tomatoes and ISA Megatrend Main Boards plus the intro of Win 95 over Win 3.1/Dos 5.5.
Cyrix MB's with an Integrated CPU 386 DX 40 ran MS Win 95 B and C.

I really can't say where the Silicon war is leading to but I'm a system builder.
I was a slave to IBM FORTRAN Card Punch back in 1970, let alone for the Commador 64 that set me Free not before I did about 6 months of studying to implement the mods.
Today I can stream and capture Blue Ray 264 AVC/ACC res flics with a couple clicks of the mouse and render on a 1440p PLS 120 Hz display for FREE and navigate any with out harassment as I can simply Over-Write my OS within 20 minutes if I'm Infected.
I guess Gigabyte, ASUS, AS Rock, Fox Com and EVGA are about the only MB Desk Top MFGR's left.
