Mail server tied to Outlook 2003..

Assuming I properly think through ports to forward on the router and everything is it possible for me to be able to setup a service to run on my windows XP machine that lets the mail client on it... (Outlook 2003) to be accessible via the web by a specific set of credentials... reason i would like to do this is at home i have several emails linked to my outlook and all my mail is set to be retrieved via outlook and stored, but I would still like to see this email anywhere i go via the web. is there a way i can setup something to tunnel through the internet into my PC and view these emails.. without doing a VNC type deal. I just want to be able to access the e-mail client, not anything else on my PC.

I have discovered that you easily do this with whats called (OWA) Outlook Web Access with an Exchange server setup.. anyone know if this is possible to perform the function without having an exchange server more or less just a client machine serving as a temporary server when a user authenticates to it via the web url...?

If all you want is email then I can't think of a way to do it. VNC but that gives you the whole pc.

I know of no way to do this except:
1) Use a remote desktop application of your choice.
2) Forward all emails to a single webmail client and view the emails via the single webmail server.
3) Use multiple webmail clients to view all emails at each webmail server.
4) Get a hosted Exchange Server account. They are only $15 a month.

thanks for the input the more i read about this the more that ti makes sense that it would normally only be tied into exchange to be a feature for the users hosted within exchange. with OWA - either way i might do the UltraVNC route, thanks. 🙂

fast and easy (yes it is a form of vnc)

althoug i agree with rebate monger
setup a rule to forward all incoming mail to a gmail account that you can create specifically for that purpose
