So I see all these people that make videos on youtube and elsewhere of them removing tough stains. These processes are usually long and complicated. My question is, why doesn't one of these industrious stain fighters start a website where people can mail them stained garments for cleaning?

Inspiration for this thread: Getting drunk, then attempting to find my way back to the hotel in the pouring rain, while it was about 30 degrees outside, and rolling down a mud-slick hill in a pure white Ralph Lauren Purple Label sweater. My feeble attempts to remove the mud stains haven't yielded much success.

Probably because this is an exceedingly rare occurrence.

Uh, because a dry cleaner is a lot closer and quicker?

What the fuck kind of question is this?

My experience with most dry cleaners is that they don't really specialize in stain removal. They just run whatever it is through their normal dry cleaning process is, and then the stain seems to be sealed in forever.

If you point it out when you drop your things off, and tell them what it like is, they will usually make a reasonable effort to remove it.

Because it's cheaper to watch the video and do it yourself? Because such things as dry cleaners exist?

It's called a dry cleaner.

this, i could totally get mud out of a sweater at my dads places...jesus christ.

well...ok i could *probably* get it out. depending on the material and how badly the mud is ground into it. if its all cotton theres a good chance that with proper care and some mild bleaching it can look good as new.

if its synthetic getting the mud out is one thing...making sure its bright white it another, because you cant use chlorine bleach to get the job done.
