PORTLAND, Ore. - A mail carrier who was caught using a yard as his personal toilet will not be fired.

The incident happened last month at a home in southeast Portland and a neighbor, Don Derfler, captured the man in the act with his camera.

Derfler had been waiting for his babysitter when he saw his mailman acting odd at his neighbor's house across the street. The postal worker then pulled down his pants and that's when Derfler began snapping pictures.

"We trust people like the postal service and meter readers and people of that nature," Derfler told us when we interviewed him in April. "To come on to our property and to defecate - it's just wrong."

The incident was an embarrassment to the post office and the worker was immediately placed on unpaid leave. Now, a decision has been made to keep the worker but he will be transferred to a different route.

A spokesperson said the administrative action was taken based on a postal service investigation but he did not elaborate. He also did not say which route the mail carrier has been assigned to cover.

"What can brown do for you?"

This guy could work for UPS, he's already left their mascot on the front lawn of a customer!

If he didn't get fired, I'm guessing he had some sort of medical condition. However, I'd bet that whatever it is isn't really serious enough to justify crapping in someone's lawn and he got to keep his job because USPS didn't want to risk it in court.

As long as he uses hand sanitizer after I do not care-as long as its in my neighbors yard. Plus perhaps he had the Hershey squirts and just had no warning and had to cut loose. In your pants or in the yard, what would you choose?

"Let's see......yeah, this catalog looks like it's got some good soft ass-wiping pages inside....."

WRONG USPS employees are federal employees and the postal service is a government entity.

Maybe you are confusing UPS with USPS.

The USPS is a semi-private corporation supported entirely by the sale of stamps etc. The USPS is regulated by acts of Congress though since it was created under the guidelines of the Constitution. No tax money has gone to the USPS since 1971. For more on the subject you may want to peruse www.nalc.org

The USPS now stands for United States Poop Service. :sneaky:

Who funds their retirement?

They do, that's why they had a 10 billion dollar shortfall last year, which 80% was due to pension, health and salary costs. People just don't mail like they used to. The government only allocates 96 million a year to the USPS. And they (the USPS) has to come up with 5 billion a year just for the pension fund paid in advance every year now. They are trying to get Congress to stop that mandate. Good luck with that.

I used to live in an apartment that was close to some office buildings with a small dumpster, one day I saw a postal truck pull up and the postman got out, looked around (didn't see me watching through a window) and put a box in the dumpster then covered it up and took off. I went over hoping to find something stolen or contraband only to find a box of JC Penny flyers he didn't want to deliver..:(

They are using semi-private in a very loose term to mean special funded instead of tax funded. USPS is entirely owned and controlled by the federal government. Its workers are federal employees.
