Mail / calendar app with native gmail support?

The weirdest thing moving from OSX to Windows is that gmail calendar support's missing in windows 8. While outlook 2013 supports gmail email (the built in Mail app does not, at least I'm getting repeated connection errors), I'd still like to use my gmail calendar outside of a web browser.

Suggestions?
