I'm going to format as I upgrade to Lion and this presents a problem for me - I want to have my mail application settings saved. There are instructions how to do it here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2980
I can save the preference files, format, install lion, and then copy the preference files over, however the issue is that I don't know if the preference files are identical. In fact, I'm not expecting them to be. In addition, I'd like to ideally just copy the entire Mail folder from /library, but the Mail application has significantly changed with Lion.
How should I deal with this? The really complicated procedure is this: Upgrade to Lion, make a backup of Mail, format, install Lion again, and then copy over the Mail backup. It's probably an extra 2-3 hours of time, but I'm willing to do it in order to ensure a good outcome.
Unless someone else has advice on this, I'll be installing Lion twice in order to ensure my mail settings are working properly.
Why am I formatting? I had installed a bunch of services on here like ruby on rails (among other things) that I never removed and I'd like to just format it rather than spending hours to remove each one individually. Upgrading to Lion seemed like a good chance to do this.
Any feedback?
