Magnolia, Movie

I've seen this movie 3 times and can't get over how good I think it is. The character development is perfect, the emotion is real, and the situations are pretty real. I'm just suprised that I cannot find anyone that actually enjoys the movie what it is because they always expect it to have a big tie in like Snatch or something. Any thoughts on this movie?

No thoughts yet, but I recently bought it based on recommendations from people who liked Crash as much as me... Now I just have to find 3 hours to watch it.

I watched it when it came out(years ago) expecting it to have the same essence of the movie Crash, where all the characters are some how effected by another. Magnolia was cool, but I kept waiting for that part to be revealed, and was kinda let down. Other than that it had great acting, I love tom cruise's part.

I think its one of the worst movies ever, except for the opening scene.

Really..it was totally worthless and then at the end.

SPOILER**********************************************************8

Frogs rain from the ****** sky. It was all real world stuff...all made sense..and then ****** frogs...

Total waste of time.

They were all tied in with each other in one way, but my friends were expecting an even bigger tie in towards the end. So they were let down too. I think a lot of people get lost in that part of the movie and don't pay attention to the more important details such as the rain, and yes, frogs.

Favourite movie of all time. Character development is amazing, and Tom Cruise is amazing (flame retardant applied). His seminar "speeches" are hilarious <"No women don't lie. Women don't cheat. Women don't manipulate us!>. The 1:30 mark is the best half hour sequence where everything just goes to hell. Think I've rewatched it 5 times in the past few months. Also, the tie ins are great as is. It's clear how they're all connected, and it isn't necessary to be hand held through how they come together. If you want an in-depth summary, check out Magnolia on Wikipedia, great chart with all teh characters.

Why no link? Wikipedia Magnolia

I've only watched it 3 times and there is still so much I haven't noticed. Like the "It is not wrong to mix up children and angels" comment at the bar. I never knew tied it in with the rest of the story but it makes sense now.

Yeah, Tom Cruises character was great. I loved the banners in the background during his seminar. "No pussy has nine lives".

I think it's "Careful son. It's dangerous to confuse children with angels."😀 <I memorised half the lines.> Also, another great quote: "We may be through with the past, but the past ain't through with us." Also, love rewatching Frank explode at Janet "What I want you to do janet, is I want you to do your F***ing job!" And I haven't even started on the music yet...

Great movie! It does have a great beginning but there is much more to it than that. You can watch the movie 10 times and get 10 different meanings out of it.

Haha, oops 😱

sigh...I wish my friends and gf were more enthusiastic about this movie like some of you are. I recommended that movie last night and after we watched it, all I got was, "How does it tie in?", "Frogs!?", "Snatch was better"

Total waste of time.

Animals from a lake have been caught in an updraft during a storm before. Raining fish and such onto villages. Also, the frogs tie in to the quote in the beginning "These things happen" but that is besides the point. I think the frogs could have been anything, just something shocking that would bring the characters to a state of awareness who they are (like when Tom Cruise's character looks into his fathers face after the frogs have rained down to see that he has become just like the man he hates).

Exodus 8:2 is from the bible and refers to a plague of frogs. There are many references to it hidden in the movie.

If you liked that movie, you'll love Boogie Nights. To me, that is a perfect movie.
